Starting point

A purchased business building had to be converted into an office with an open, dynamic, friendly, quirky and homely atmosphere with a professional and luxurious appearance. The new EuroDev Center in Almelo was to become a representative office experience, a calling card for customers from all over the world.

The building asked for a drastic renovation so that sufficient daylight would enter. The first phase was the renovation of the floor, the ground floor was rented out temporarily to customers and would only be involved in the process of growth.

Design & realisation

The existing office building was worn out, offered some office rooms and storage space, but very little daylight. Applying daylight was essential in the interior design. New window openings have been made in the side and rear façade and the roof has also been “cut open”.

By placing glass walls around the new roof opening, a patio full of daylight was created in the heart of the building. A wonderful place to eat outside and relax in the afternoon sun. An open structure was important for the company so that people started to communicate with each other. The workplaces are divided into around the patio
clusters of 2 or 4. Large wooden tables where people can work freely and consult each other. A number of small call units have been created so that customers can call quietly.

2 director rooms have been created within the open structure, with glass walls, private and yet accessible and with a view of the entire workplace. Furthermore, 3 meeting rooms have been created, of which a “standing meeting room” and
a large “oval room” to give presentations. A large dining room has also been created, with a kitchen and bar, a large cozy table and a small bistro area.

The floor is a combination of carpet at the workplaces, a gravel floor for the walkways and a wooden floor in the canteen. A playful ceiling, acoustic above the workplaces and industrial around the patio. The lighting is homely by means of large textile hanging lamps above the work tables.

New situation

The final interior is a game of refined and sturdy materials, light and transparency. The desks, like kitchen tables made of scaffolding wood, offer working with mutual communication and yet sufficient privacy. The dining room gives the coziness of eating together at the large table or in small groups just like in the cafe. There is a connection between the ground floor and the floor because everything is coordinated, and transparency is an important feature of the interior.

For many customers it is always a surprise to find an open, light and green office behind a facade of a normal office building on an industrial estate.

The final result

EuroDev is ready for the future with this new home port, an office that feels like home. The new way of working in the Twente way, with an interior where the identity of the company is visible and tangible.
